August Tasting - AWS National Tasting project

This year's National Tasting was held on August 21st at the Tellico Village Yacht Club. This annual event took us on a trip through the 5 central provinces of central Italy; Lazio, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Marche, & Umbria. 60 members of the club participated in the national tasting project and scored these great wines on several characteristics. Every club in the U.S. tasted the same wines and all the scores are sent to AWS national for a final countrywide score.

Thanks to Chip & Kathy Parr for hosting this great event and guiding us through the great wine country of central Italy. 

AWSSMC Raft-Off August 18th, 2026

The annual chapter Raft off on 18 August was another great event for the club. The weather was beautiful and it was another amazing opportunity to be on the lake, float in the water, sip some of your favorite summer wines, share some food, and get to know our AWSSMC wine lovers in a casual summer setting.  Thanks to club president Gillian Arledge for another great event.​

Club event refund policy

JULY 11, 2026
​At its recent meeting, the Board approved updates to our tasting refund policy to help ensure the financial sustainability of our events and minimize last-minute cancellations.
Effective immediately:
  • Cancellations made within two weeks of a standard monthly tasting will not be eligible for a refund.
  • Special tastings held at venues outside of the Yacht Club will be non-refundable.
In both situations, members who are unable to attend are encouraged to sell or transfer their reservation to a friend or family member.
To ensure clarity, the applicable refund policy for each event will be clearly stated on the tasting flyer and registration information going forward.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of our chapter.
